This Pride, we capitalised on the overwhelming success of our 2022 efforts by reinvigorating some of our existing Pride initiatives, implementing some new ones, and holding and attending several events highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion.
One of the highlights this June was a talk for staff from the author of “Glowing Up Gay”, Peter Leahy. Peter is a creative marketer who describes himself as an ‘ideas guy’ and thrives off working with his team and customers. Despite being a classic extrovert, Peter kept a secret for many years – he struggled with accepting his homosexuality and felt ashamed to come out. However, one day Peter faced his fears and embraced his true self. Since then, Peter’s life has taken a positive turn, and he is now living authentically with the support of his friends and network.
Other high points for staff at RelateCare during Pride this year were a series of virtual drag shows by our very own staff member and fabulous drag queen Kara Kalua, RelateCare’s sponsorship of WLRFM for Pride of the Déise Parade and our Pride History Quiz.
RelateCare also used this year’s Pride to roll out a designated Pride Space/Group on our company intranet. As a staff-centric organisation, this is an essential implementation for RelateCare. The online space within the secure employee communication ecosystem provides a safe place where members of the LGBTQIA+ communities and co-workers can chat and support each other and provide a platform for sharing information regarding important LGBTQIA+ issues.
Talking about RelateCare’s efforts for Pride this year Tim O’Byrne, CFO at RelateCare, said.
“At RelateCare, we don’t just see acceptance and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ communities as a month-long endeavour; we pride ourselves on our tolerance, inclusivity and inclusion 24/7, 365 days a year.
Pride Month gives us an excellent opportunity to showcase our ongoing endeavours, to foster inclusion, and to highlight to everyone in RelateCare and externally that working together with others, however you or they identify, is the best route to success in people’s personal lives and work lives”
