RelateCare Recognizes World Mental Health Day by Supporting Staff Well-Being

This October, RelateCare is proud to recognize World Mental Health Month by focusing on the mental well-being of our staff. Our team members, who spend their days supporting patients’ health needs, are the backbone of our mission. We understand that it’s equally important to care for the needs of those who make our mission possible.

RelateCare’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of our staff is a vital part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. We firmly believe that creating a supportive environment for our team is not just essential for their well-being, but also for delivering the high standard of care our clients expect. During World Mental Health Month this October, we have dedicated additional efforts to ensuring our staff feel valued and supported.

On October 10th, RelateCare marked World Mental Health Day with activities reinforcing our commitment to a positive work environment. As part of these efforts, we hosted a virtual coffee morning, allowing some staff to take a break, connect, and focus on their mental well-being. While this was just one event in a month-long focus on mental health, it symbolized our broader efforts to create a workplace where open conversations and support are encouraged.

Emer O’Neill, a RelateCare Trainer and one of our eight Mental Health Champions organized the event. These champions, including Emer, are crucial in promoting organizational well-being. They are approachable contacts for staff needing advice or just a listening ear. Their role is to support colleagues facing mental health challenges or seeking guidance on maintaining their well-being. The organization also helps coordinate activities and resources that ensure staff can access support when needed, fostering a culture where mental health is a priority.

RelateCare’s approach to mental well-being is not limited to World Mental Health Month. We offer a variety of resources designed to support our staff year-round. This includes Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) for confidential counselling, flexible work options, and access to wellness resources through partners like Zevo Health. Zevo Health provides tools like guided meditation, nutritional advice, and breathing exercises, helping staff better understand and manage their mental and physical health.

In addition to internal efforts, RelateCare partnered with Pieta during World Mental Health Month. Pieta offers free, accessible counselling to individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or those bereaved by suicide. By supporting Pieta, RelateCare aims to extend our focus on well-being beyond our organization, helping to ensure that those in crisis have access to life-saving support. More information about Pieta’s work can be found at www.pieta.ie.

At RelateCare, we recognize that the well-being of our staff is central to our mission. Our commitment to mental health is not confined to a single month or event, it’s a core part of how we support our team throughout the year, ensuring they are equipped to continue providing compassionate care and making a difference in the lives of patients and colleagues.
